I noticed that, too. Do you know the saying: “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”? It’s good to keep it in mind. However, not everything is so black and white. Why does our goodness have to be considered “shame”? It just highlights our hopeful nature. They say hope is the mother of the stupid, but hey! what would we be without hope? I’m starting to ramble, so I’ll finish this with – “I agree.:
I agree that goodness is not a shame. And sometimes we give second chances to people who donβt deserve them. But, some other times, it ends well….
So… yes… itβs not that black or white…
I believe whether in this life or the next one, we do get second chances… but it doesn’t make your aphorism any less real, since we’ll feel better to grasp the opportunities we now have
